This is spying. Isn't it FUN?

Brody attending the meeting Walker had so casually mentioned turned into a three ring circus. More than one person involved was convinced the whole thing was a wild goose chase, including Carrie occasionally. If she hadn't seen Walker as up close and personal as she had when they were first rescued, she could have been convinced. Maybe sending Brody to a regular meeting for returning vets who were also Muslim was just a kind of fuck you from a man who felt he'd been betrayed by a brother soldier. Or it could be something much more sinister. The problem was, no one could really figure out what that sinister was supposed to be. Carrie continued to maintain that Brody had no idea what was going on.

The questions Brody faced right after the meeting ranged from if he knew any of the people there already to how was he planning to overthrow the US government. When the questions headed that way a majority of the time, Carrie called foul and got Brody out of there. With full understanding of the irony involved, they had decided that the cover that would work best with his family was that he was working with other vets on integrating back into the world. Carrie would have felt a lot worse about that if it was just being used to cover up them fucking around. She still felt pretty shitty about it given how much stress it was putting on him.

They took their own cars back to her place. She got there before him and immediately opened a fresh bottle of wine, leaving a full glass on the counter for him, then she went upstairs to change into something decidedly less official looking.

He kissed the side of her head. "Figured as much." Once he finally had his land legs, he pulled back from her, then stepped out of his pants. "Hungry or sleepy?"

"Yes?" She wanted to go curl up with him, to put all the unpleasantness of the day firmly behind them, but she thought they'd wake up uncomfortable if they didn't eat. "Hungry. Might as well get that out of the way."

She looked him over, then stripped off her tank. "It'll be fun."

He nodded. "Okay. You stay right there." He pulled away from her with a smirked. "I'll try not to burn myself."

He pulled together dinner without too much trouble, only having to avoid burning himself twice. While he cooked, he kept both their glasses topped up, so he was definitely buzzed and rambling about nothing by the time the food was plated.

She rambled right along with him, telling him a story about nothing at all really, and laughing more than she remembered having done in a while. Periodically, she made him stop in front of her for a sweet kiss. She couldn't stop smiling. When it was time to hop down off the counter, she made him help her down so she could run her hands over him.

She didn't waste much time with the actual eating. She wanted to get upstairs where she could put her hands all over him.

He ate as quickly as she did, just as eager to settle down with her as she was. He made the decision that they were both done not too long as they sat down, and took the plates away.

He grabbed the wine bottle and grinned at her. "Come upstairs with me."

She didn't hesitate, grabbing his hand firmly and letting him lead her upstairs. She was happy to watch him ahead of her, enjoying the way he moved. Once they were in the bedroom, she urged him straight into bed, then held her hand out for the bottle so she could have a drink. "This is going to knock us out." If they were lucky.

He settled back on the bed, passing her the bottle. "A good night's sleep would be nice." He stretched out and ran his hand over his chest. "Been thinking about you."

She shifted in the bed so she could hand him back the bottle after taking a long swig. Then she ran her now cold fingers over the same area he'd just touched. "You have?" She glanced at where she knew the bug was in the room, the one she'd covered with a big sweater on the off chance it would dampen their ability to hear. "What were you thinking?"

He shivered at the way her fingers felt. "Thinking about how quiet it is when I'm with you. About how I'm not looking over my shoulder all the time." He touched her face. "About that smile."

She smiled more broadly at him, moving her fingers up so she could tease one of his nipples. "Just a smile." Not that anyone else saw exactly that smile from her. She wouldn't admit it, but that smile was just for him. Then she laughed. "Quiet? With me? Most people tell me I never shut up."

He twitched a little at the tweak of his nipple. "It's a very nice smile." He brushed his thumb over her lips. "And I don't mean that you're quiet." He pointed to his head. "Gets quiet up here."

After a moment, he frowned. He didn't want to talk about that, about how hard a time he had. He didn't want to ruin their time together with his issues.

The problem with not talking about it was that it never went away. Part of why they worked was because they had always been able to talk freely. And the idea of a quiet mind was so much a part of being with him that it took her breath away to hear him say that. She kept molesting him, because she loved touching him, but she didn't want to stop talking because it was important.

"That's why you have keys. Because we all need that quiet."

He nodded. "It's been hard to get away. I've been trying." He twitched every time she hit a sensitive spot, which was often. "That meeting... Carrie, I don't know if I can do that again. I know they are soldiers, just like me, but getting past their religion..."

She knew what he meant, even if she didn't feel it the way he did. After everything he'd been through, most of it proclaimed in the name of Allah, it had to be hard. It wasn't a rational mind kind of issue. She kept touching, knowing that it would help keep him on an even keel. It did wonders for her. "I don't think you'll need to. Either someone is going to contact you after that or it's not going to come to anything."

She kissed his shoulder. "Could he be messing with you? Would he do that?"

He exhaled. "I don't believe that he's just let it go. You don't let something like that go, even if you've found God. It makes no sense." He rubbed his eyes. "But maybe he did, find God. He used to drink more than I did."

He might still drink for all they knew. If he had something to say, he might have let it go that once. There wasn't any evidence Walker had found religion, any religion, particularly. But there wouldn't have to be. Praying didn't leave many signs. "Even if he did, why would he think you did? Or that you'd want to?" She shook her head. "Twisted revenge makes the most sense to me." If only it made more sense to her colleagues.

"Revenge. The might of the fucking CIA turned against a man who just wants revenge." At least Brody could still be cynical about the whole thing. That had to count for something.

He reached up and traced her jaw. "He's in it for revenge. The CIA's in it to catch a terrorist. I'm in it for some peace. How about you, Carrie? WHat's in this for you?"

Her eyes fluttered shut as she leaned into his touch. It was as much her answer as any words she could find, but she knew it wasn't going to be enough. Finally she sighed softly. "You." She licked her lips and tried again. "Peace is a good word for it. You always made me feel more...myself."

He pulled her close and kissed her deeply. That was the only answer he would have taken and not doubted. It back up the way she responded to him without thought.

While they kissed, he set the bottle aside so they could focus on the more important things. He needed to reset after the day he'd been put through and he could think of no better way than in her arms.

She shifted in his arms, squirming closer so she was half up on his body while they kissed. Running her fingers through his hair, she was more than content to stay right there kissing him. Every time they did this was a mental reset for her.

Some day, maybe, she would be able to explain just how much of one it was. She shivered slightly, knowing that wouldn't be possible.

He settled into the kissing. They had time and it always lead to more, when it was time. His hands roamed her back before finally concentrating on her spine.

She was so small in his hands, so easily broken. Yet she trusted him, an emotionally and mentally broken Marine, with her body. He could, so easily, end her, right there. And he'd be a liar if he said that the thought did not flit across his mind every time they were together.

Every day she spent with him put her in more and more danger of being found out, so he would never have to do anything to her physically to end her existence. He could break her with one word to her bosses. One simple, clinical word. He hadn't been broken when she met him, only lost and lonely. She was the broken one. Now they were more equal in that and she wanted to protect him.

The longer he touched her, the harder it was to stay still. His fingers on her back made her twitch and shiver. Finally she arched up like a cat being petted, trying to get his hands lower, closer to her ass.

He resisted her subtle push for only a moment, then he moved his hands lower. He grabbed her ass, pulling her against him.

Maybe if she actually trusted him the way he was trusting her, they end up better off. As it stood, if what he was doing was discovered by his family, he'd be out in the cold too.

His mind flitted over those topics for only a moment, only taking an instant to acknowledge that he was one step closer to be alone, before he rolled her under him and shifted everything into a higher gear.

She pushed back against his hands, then his hips, torn between which she wanted more. That last thing she wanted was to make his life harder, but if he did get kicked out, he wouldn't be out in the cold. Little as she could admit it to anyone, she would take him in at least for the short term. It would certainly press the point of her honesty with him.

The minute she was under him, she broke out of the kiss and started kissing his chest and throat. She wanted to hear him make happy noises, sounds that she'd first heard on a roof top. "Love your skin. Love how you taste."

He whimpered at the kisses and at her words. They were so close to what he needed to hear. And to what he wanted to say. He just couldn't. He was stuck and he had to hear it first, to break that skip in his mental record.
