We all fall down

Carrie would remember the next few days as some of the best of her life. She was living with a man she was more comfortable with than she could have imagined, working together for a common goal. Even the visit with his kids went well. She gave him most of Saturday with just them, showing up at dinner time with pizza and cookies. They played board games and chased around her little house until it was time for him to take them back. Then it all went to hell.

They finally found evidence that Walker had met someone on one of his random seeming runs around the District. Before they could act on it, a series of small bombs took out three Metro buses as they approached the city center. A half dozen people were killed, twice that were injured. Had it been one bomb, it would have been bad enough, but three in a concert was particularly frightening for the city. It also put CIA on high alert. The work they'd been doing before was nothing compared to the sudden anger and frustration everyone showed. Plenty of people looked at Brody, and Carrie, as though they'd done something wrong. Brody should have come forward sooner. Carrie shouldn't have trusted him so much. Maybe if they'd come up for air this wouldn't have happened.

Carrie though all that and more, although she never really blamed Brody. At least, not any more than she blamed any of them for missing it. They'd messed up, not gotten to the answer fast enough. For her, everything else fell away. The work was everything and she spent as many hours as she was allowed at work. She had to be shoehorned out of the building to go home and rest, but when she was there she didn't sleep. She only ate when someone put food in front of her. This was the Carrie Brody had never seen, that her family worried about, that Carrie held on a tight leash.

She paced her dining platform, looking at the notes and schedules she had posted to her wall, sure she was still missing something crucial. She had music playing, the kind of jazz that normally settled her, but it wasn't doing shit and she could feel her skin start to crawl, but she had to work, had to figure out where they'd gone wrong.

The payoff just wasn't high enough for any of them. She plopped down next to him and went right to work. What he'd worked out matched a lot of the assumptions her team had made, but with considerably more finesse. Of course, he cared about getting out with his life and freedom and not all her team gave a shit about that. She took in everything he said, knowing she was going to have to use it to keep her people in line.

"I see why they picked you, you know." She meant DIA, not Walker's people. "I have even better taste than I ever thought."

"They picked me because I was closest to him." Of course that probably want only reason, but it was the main one.

"But you do have good taste."

She shook her head. They could have assigned someone else and waited a little while or just pulled Walker from the field, but they took a look at who was close and went with Brody. That meant something. She leaned over and kissed him gently. "I have outstanding taste. How are you holding up?"

"I plan on getting really drunk tonight." Which was answer in itself. "And eating food that will kill me."

She had to laugh at that. "Lots of butter? And spices?" She Kissed him again, then sat back to consider him. "Did you maybe want some company for this bout of self abuse?" She probably shouldn't stay that long, but if he wanted, she would stay.

"Butter and spices, so we're ordering Indian again. Or were you think Moroccan?" He smiled over at her as he closed the laptop. "If no one will miss you, I think you should stay. You can just tell Saul you went home to sleep."

She groaned heavily. "Is there Moroccan near by? That would be excellent." She kicked her shoes off and went to spread out on the bed. "I don't think he'd believe me, but that's as good a story as anything." She shrugged. "I think he's resigned to my affection for you."

"Your affection for me. That's such a nice way of putting that." He pulled out his phone and called in an order. He'd found the place the first night he'd been in the hotel and discovered they did delivery on his evening visit that first night.

After he hung up, he smirked at her. "Be about 20 minutes."

She laughed softly and when he was done ordering, she reached for him. "It sits better with him than my wild and inappropriate affair. If he thinks about that, he thinks about me having sex and he likes to pretend I never do that." Like any good father figure would.

He went to her with a raised eyebrow. "He's heard you having sex. With me. And he can still pretend? Maybe with you. He gives me the evil eye."

She pulled him down beside her shifting so she could run her free hand over his hip. "Well of course. Obviously you deflowered me, taking my innocence." She almost couldn't get that out, given how amazingly ridiculous it was. "And he never heard any such thing. That was obviously the movie we had on in the backround."

He rolled his eyes as he settled under her touch. "A movie. Gotcha." He closed his eyes, letting her touch calm him. "We should watch that movie again later tonight."

She kept petting him softly, shaking her head. "At least we know we're the only ones watching this time." She shifted so she could nibble at his neck. "Maybe we'll watch a new chapter tonight, something long and slow." Not that they really ever ended up that way. "I miss you. I'd just gotten used to having you in the house."

"Long and slow. That'd be nice." He turned more toward her. "I miss you, too. This place is pretty boring. And lonely." He slipped his arms around her waist, hugging her against him. "Miss you touching me."

She closed her eyes as she touched his face, going from memory more than anything. "Poured a second glass of wine with dinner the other night without thinking." That was really for dinner, not with dinner, but who was counting. "You'll be back soon."

He nodded as he groaned softly. "Soon. Yes." Looking up at her, he smiled. "Not soon enough. But soon."

"Soon enough would be me taking you home now, right now." Back to her big bed, her quiet house where her father dropped in and bugged her about why she hadn't brought Brody by yet. "Got a new album I want to play for you."

He smiled at her. "You'll get to play it soon enough." He stole a kiss as the knock at the door came. "Stay put. And out of sight." He kissed her again, then got up and went to the door. He blocked the view into the room as he opened the door.

He spoke a moment with the delivery driver, then traded money for food. He closed the door and watched through the keyhole a moment before going back to her. "Walker wants a meet in the morning. You are stuck here tonight. Sorry."

She turned and half tucked her head under a pillow so if she was seen all she'd be was a woman in bed not anyone identifiable. Once they were alone again, she sat up cross legged in the bed. She didn't mind staying, but the idea of him meeting with Walker didn't sit well. "What does he want?"

He shrugged slightly. "Wasn't him. Just a messenger. Probably wants to know when I'm moving. What the hold up is."

He unpacked the food and plated some up. He sat back down on the bed with a grunt and handed her the plate. "Guy will go back, say I had a woman with me, laugh some, say you were probably a hooker, and I'll get ribbed about it in the morning."

She glanced down at her jeans and t-shirt. "I'm either underdressed or overdressed for a hooker." If that was the assumption that was made, that was just fine. It would help them underestimate Brody when the time came. "You can tell them I did all kinds of kinky things, took your mind off it all."

"Maybe you should do those things, so I'm not telling as many lies." He turned his attention to his food. "This shit better not be poisoned this time, or I'm gonna be pissed."

She poked at the plate for a long minute, then shrugged and started eating. "I'll be sure to do at least three kinky things while I'm here, give you plenty of things to think about." As energetic as they were, they didn't usually go toward anything too kinky. Being rough with each other was usually the limit. "I could, uhm.... I'll think of something."

He started to laugh, shaking his head slightly. "I think I'd rather just enjoy our time together." Not that he would be opposed to mutually agreed upon rough. He could use a little rough. It would be fun.

After finishing off most of his plate, he set it aside and grinned at her. "Or maybe we just lay in bed and watch TV."

She'd already given up on her plate and now she stared at him. "You want to watch some TV?" She nodded slowly. "We could do that." Sitting up straight, she pulled off her shirt and tossed it at the foot of the bed. "Might be fun. Probably a good sitcom on." She lifted her hips and slithered out of her slacks. "Maybe a musical?"

She'd like rough, that would be nice. Slow and rough sounded pretty good.
