This is spying. Isn't it FUN?

Brody attending the meeting Walker had so casually mentioned turned into a three ring circus. More than one person involved was convinced the whole thing was a wild goose chase, including Carrie occasionally. If she hadn't seen Walker as up close and personal as she had when they were first rescued, she could have been convinced. Maybe sending Brody to a regular meeting for returning vets who were also Muslim was just a kind of fuck you from a man who felt he'd been betrayed by a brother soldier. Or it could be something much more sinister. The problem was, no one could really figure out what that sinister was supposed to be. Carrie continued to maintain that Brody had no idea what was going on.

The questions Brody faced right after the meeting ranged from if he knew any of the people there already to how was he planning to overthrow the US government. When the questions headed that way a majority of the time, Carrie called foul and got Brody out of there. With full understanding of the irony involved, they had decided that the cover that would work best with his family was that he was working with other vets on integrating back into the world. Carrie would have felt a lot worse about that if it was just being used to cover up them fucking around. She still felt pretty shitty about it given how much stress it was putting on him.

They took their own cars back to her place. She got there before him and immediately opened a fresh bottle of wine, leaving a full glass on the counter for him, then she went upstairs to change into something decidedly less official looking.

Dozens of things could go wrong, starting with his wife and her boss, but those things weren't there now. They were all that mattered. She shifted again so she was almost in his lap and she wrapped her arms around his neck. If only life were really as simple as it felt like when she was alone with him.

He rubbed her back as she rested on him, his eyes closing. "You're warm. I like that."

She laughed softly. "That's what you like?" She nuzzled at him. "I'll remember that." She went back to nuzzle at him more, taking her time to explore under his ear and along his jaw. "It's an easy one to maintain."

"It's not all that I like. But I like it." He leaned his head back, so she had more of his neck. "I like that, too."

She giggled against his neck. "Also easy to maintain." She nipped him very lightly. "Regular sessions, curled up under a blanket, kissing. We can put it on our calendars. Under..." Her first thought was mental health therapy, but neither of the could do that. "I don't know what. Work out?"

He laughed softly. "That's one way to describe it, I suppose." He nuzzled at her ear a moment, then grinned. "How many days a week should we write it in?"

She groaned softly. "All of them?" She knew that wasn't possible at all, but it sounded lovely. The idea of coming home to him, seeing him in her living room, made her smile. If the thought about reality at all, the image would fall apart, for now she was going to enjoy it.

"Tempting." He winked at her, then went back to offering himself to her. His hands played over her back, tracing her spine.

She let herself enjoy just touching him for a long time, settling comfortably and working only to maintain that contact. They needed the downtime as much as anything. If there really was any hope of a future for them, they'd need to make time for that, too, not just the rollicking sexy they kept falling into. It helped that she liked being with him. "How many do you really think you could get away now? I mean, if were weren't pulling away for, uh, work."

He shrugged. "I'm still on medical leave. That's what they are calling it to keep my record 'clean.' Means my days are mostly free, once the kids go to school." He thought about it for a little bit. "Still have to go for physical therapy couple times a week..."

That didn't take more than a couple hours, hours she was working anyway. Still, she could make time for him during the day. They could do normal things like have lunch. Or go for runs. Maybe she could be there for him after PT. She exhaled slowly and suggested that last idea. "If you wanted me to."

He smiled. "I'd like that. Be nice to have someone to take care of me afterward. Those guys are beasts."

"Then I'll do that." She was a little surprised that his wife wasn't doing that. Maybe he hadn't asked her to, but them maybe she hadn't offered. Not that there was any way she could ask. "I'll rub something and feed you tea and sandwiches while you recover."

Chuckling softly, he pulled her into another kiss. Her surprise was obvious, but he didn't really want to address it. The reasons weren't that important, only that it wasn't happening.

She let it go in favor of soft kisses and gentle touch. When they paused, she rested her head on his shoulder. "I'll start keeping real food in my house, for when you come over." She cleared her throat. "I'm not good at that."

Rubbing her back, he nodded. "You haven't had to. You'll just have to pretend you are having your nieces over, but with less mushy food."

Carrie snorted deeply, shaking her had. "Maggie doesn't let me feed them. If I watch them, ever, she packs meals." The little one was barely on solid foods anyway and as much as she adored them, they scared the hell out of her.

"Then this will be good practice." He winked at her, trying to calm her some. "Do you need company to go to the store?"

"You'd never know I managed complex international operations based on my food skills." She looked up at him hopefully. "I do well with lists. Clear direction." She cleared her throat. "Where food is concerned..."

He traced her cheek with a smile. "I can do lists. But you have to tell me what you don't like. That makes lists easier for me."

Her eyes fluttered shut and she moaned softly, completely distracted by the touch. "Fancy. Don't need anything fancy." Fancy things never lasted. She had sophisticated tastes from all her travels, but at the end of the day, she was a burgers and beer kinda girl.

He kissed her again. "No food allergies? Nothing like that? I'd feel bad if I accidentally poisoned you."

She shook her head very seriously. "I'm remarkably easy to look after." She licked her lips, knowing what a huge lie that was while still being sort of the truth. "When I let someone, that is." There, that covered the gaping hole. Mostly.

He nodded. "Letting someone is hard, I know. You know I don't like it, either. Rather take care of someone than be taken care of."

She gave him an odd look. "You let me take care of you all the time." The night they met they'd taken care of each other, after a fashion, and she'd been holding his hand as best she could for some time.
