Brody attending the meeting Walker had so casually mentioned turned into a three ring circus. More than one person involved was convinced the whole thing was a wild goose chase, including Carrie occasionally. If she hadn't seen Walker as up close and personal as she had when they were first rescued, she could have been convinced. Maybe sending Brody to a regular meeting for returning vets who were also Muslim was just a kind of fuck you from a man who felt he'd been betrayed by a brother soldier. Or it could be something much more sinister. The problem was, no one could really figure out what that sinister was supposed to be. Carrie continued to maintain that Brody had no idea what was going on.

The questions Brody faced right after the meeting ranged from if he knew any of the people there already to how was he planning to overthrow the US government. When the questions headed that way a majority of the time, Carrie called foul and got Brody out of there. With full understanding of the irony involved, they had decided that the cover that would work best with his family was that he was working with other vets on integrating back into the world. Carrie would have felt a lot worse about that if it was just being used to cover up them fucking around. She still felt pretty shitty about it given how much stress it was putting on him.

They took their own cars back to her place. She got there before him and immediately opened a fresh bottle of wine, leaving a full glass on the counter for him, then she went upstairs to change into something decidedly less official looking.

He exhaled. "I don't believe that he's just let it go. You don't let something like that go, even if you've found God. It makes no sense." He rubbed his eyes. "But maybe he did, find God. He used to drink more than I did."

He might still drink for all they knew. If he had something to say, he might have let it go that once. There wasn't any evidence Walker had found religion, any religion, particularly. But there wouldn't have to be. Praying didn't leave many signs. "Even if he did, why would he think you did? Or that you'd want to?" She shook her head. "Twisted revenge makes the most sense to me." If only it made more sense to her colleagues.

"Revenge. The might of the fucking CIA turned against a man who just wants revenge." At least Brody could still be cynical about the whole thing. That had to count for something.

He reached up and traced her jaw. "He's in it for revenge. The CIA's in it to catch a terrorist. I'm in it for some peace. How about you, Carrie? WHat's in this for you?"

Her eyes fluttered shut as she leaned into his touch. It was as much her answer as any words she could find, but she knew it wasn't going to be enough. Finally she sighed softly. "You." She licked her lips and tried again. "Peace is a good word for it. You always made me feel more...myself."

He pulled her close and kissed her deeply. That was the only answer he would have taken and not doubted. It back up the way she responded to him without thought.

While they kissed, he set the bottle aside so they could focus on the more important things. He needed to reset after the day he'd been put through and he could think of no better way than in her arms.

She shifted in his arms, squirming closer so she was half up on his body while they kissed. Running her fingers through his hair, she was more than content to stay right there kissing him. Every time they did this was a mental reset for her.

Some day, maybe, she would be able to explain just how much of one it was. She shivered slightly, knowing that wouldn't be possible.

He settled into the kissing. They had time and it always lead to more, when it was time. His hands roamed her back before finally concentrating on her spine.

She was so small in his hands, so easily broken. Yet she trusted him, an emotionally and mentally broken Marine, with her body. He could, so easily, end her, right there. And he'd be a liar if he said that the thought did not flit across his mind every time they were together.

Every day she spent with him put her in more and more danger of being found out, so he would never have to do anything to her physically to end her existence. He could break her with one word to her bosses. One simple, clinical word. He hadn't been broken when she met him, only lost and lonely. She was the broken one. Now they were more equal in that and she wanted to protect him.

The longer he touched her, the harder it was to stay still. His fingers on her back made her twitch and shiver. Finally she arched up like a cat being petted, trying to get his hands lower, closer to her ass.

He resisted her subtle push for only a moment, then he moved his hands lower. He grabbed her ass, pulling her against him.

Maybe if she actually trusted him the way he was trusting her, they end up better off. As it stood, if what he was doing was discovered by his family, he'd be out in the cold too.

His mind flitted over those topics for only a moment, only taking an instant to acknowledge that he was one step closer to be alone, before he rolled her under him and shifted everything into a higher gear.

She pushed back against his hands, then his hips, torn between which she wanted more. That last thing she wanted was to make his life harder, but if he did get kicked out, he wouldn't be out in the cold. Little as she could admit it to anyone, she would take him in at least for the short term. It would certainly press the point of her honesty with him.

The minute she was under him, she broke out of the kiss and started kissing his chest and throat. She wanted to hear him make happy noises, sounds that she'd first heard on a roof top. "Love your skin. Love how you taste."

He whimpered at the kisses and at her words. They were so close to what he needed to hear. And to what he wanted to say. He just couldn't. He was stuck and he had to hear it first, to break that skip in his mental record.

She shifted under him so she could reach more places, taking her turn at running her fingers over his spine. There were rough patches of skin where he had been beaten or where he'd sat for long hours against stone walls. They were a part of him now and she touched them as eagerly as she touched any other part. She nipped at him, catching pieces of his flesh just long enough to pull but not long enough to leave a mark. "So strong." She figured he'd probably argue the point, so she shifted up and kissed him hard before he could.

The kiss stopped his argument before he could make it. His arms tightened around her and he pressed against her with greater need. Someone had to give him confidence. And Carrie was a lovely person to do that.

Sometimes they fed off each other in the best ways. She wrapped her leg around his hips so she could grind against him properly. Her nails pressed into his ass for a moment, then she grabbed his hips in much the way he had hers when she was on the counter. It let her press against him to much better effect.

He groaned against her lips when she grabbed him. Then he shifted just enough to complete the circuit. This was what he needed.

Carrie gasped loudly when he filled her, shuddering hard as her body accommodated him. Ready as she was, even though this was round two, he still took her breath away. She broke out of the kiss long enough to let him see just how much she loved it, to see the nearly giddy smile, then she was kissing him again.

That was the kind of response he wanted. It made him feel powerful. It was probably the only thing that made him feel that way anymore.

He nipped at her lips as they kiss, then pressed his tongue against her mouth.

She opened to him completely, shuddering with the power of it. He could make her want to have this forever. To give up everything in favor of being with him, maybe finding that peace he talked about. She moaned his name as her hips ground into his. Much more of this and she was going to get lost.

The moan pushed him as much as the kiss did and he answered with one of his own. This was awful, a horrible idea. And he wanted it more every time.

It was such a bad idea that it was good she was kissing him because otherwise she would be saying things she wouldn't want on tape, things she wasn't ready to admit and that could ruin them both. The worst part was that they were absolutely true.

The things she wouldn't say were the things he wanted to hear. They were things he needed to hear to keep the faith in what they were doing. They were the things he did not hear at home.

Without being able to say the words, she found herself trying to say it with touch. For as forcefully as they moved against each other, she kept touching him tenderly, caressing his sides and his chest and his face. What they were doing could only be classed as making love, no matter what she said to Saul.

He leaned into her touch had they moved, trying to get as much as he could. He pressed his face against her neck after breaking the kiss. He whispered wirelessly against her neck, just hoping she would understand.

She understood all too well and started shaking. She pulled back for a moment to meet his eyes. If he couldn't see how she felt in that moment, he was blind. She could only maintain the look for an instant, though, then she had to hide her face against his neck, encouraging him to come back to her so they could both hide from it.

Pressed against her neck again, he whimpered again as his speed increased. They were finished, as simply as that. There was no hope for them that didn't involve each other.
