Briefings with Saul were getting more and more tense. Carrie could feel the strain on all of them as a real, palpable thing. Beside her, no one had ever had much faith in Brody, which was largely her fault. How could she explain her change of heart without explaining it was exactly that. What was harder was not telling him about how bad it was. Every time she was vague it was a physical pain.

The final straw was a heated conversation about what they would do if he were found out, revealed to be on a mission. They had escape plans, but it was clear very few people in that room gave a damn if they worked. Or if they even existed. She'd been through hell for the man they were dismissing like so much dross and all because... She wasn't that sure why because at this point. It was about Saul, really, and she knew that. That's why when he made a passing comment that made it sound damn like he'd made his decision and Brody didn't figure into it at all, she felt her stomach lurch so badly she almost had to leave the room.

She didn't go to him that night, that would be stupid. She waited a day, all of which was spent wondering when she would throw up. She got there late, just before dark, and sat back to watch the men finish up before meal break. He looked good. Better than when she saw him last, even.

She smacked him, because that was the only reasonable response. Then she kissed his head softly. "Should probably go with something like....Mark?" She shuddered. "Daniel?" That wasn't so bad.

He stared at her for a moment, then smirked. "Why all the Bible names, baby? Trying to convert me?"

She stared right back, then laughed. "Sorry, only a little random, unconscious bigotry, not any attempts at conversion." She leaned in and kissed him lightly. "I would never do that, Brody. Never." Her own beliefs were casual agnosticism at best. But she would never ask him to give that up. Not after everything he'd been through. Of course, he'd have to practice at home, but that wasn't so bad. "You'll have to hide it again, but never from me."

He could still remember her initial response to his torture pit conversion, so her comment rang only slightly hollow. Still, he wasn't going to question her. "I never got to stop hiding it."

To say the situation was different now was an understatement. They didn't have much left to them of who they were. She wasn't going to take something away from him if she didn't have to. And she didn't want him lying to her. She sighed softly. "Maybe you shouldn't. Everyone would expect you to. Hide in plain sight." They might ping searches, but being open and having a child would throw them off lists.

He thought about it for a few minutes, then shrugged. "Need a better feel for the town first."

She nodded, then let the subject drop. They could deal with later. It needed to be something that was safe for him. She knew that. "Shouldn't take long. We should subscribe to the local paper. That kind of thing."

He nodded, nuzzling her neck. "SHould make sure we have a house, first."

She snorted softly. "We will. The offer was fair. I bet we hear tomorrow." She reached to caress his cheek. "I'm not... I don't know, I'm not worried about it. Other things, sure, not that."

At least one of them was not concerned. He was just stashing his worry behind taking care of her. "I'm going to hold you to that."

She pulled him closer for a tender kiss. "Hold me however you like." There was only so much worrying they could do. If it didn't work, they'd find someplace else. She'd already told herself that a fair bit. "I promise I'll be here to hold onto."

His answer was to kiss her deeper, to press against her, and work his hand under her shirt. He was definitely going to hold her.

She laughed easily. There was nothing about his answer that she was inclined to argue. Instead she worked to get her shirt off so he could reach better. She touched his face as they kissed, which slowed her down, but she didn't care. She needed the connection.

Skin was exactly what he wanted. He slid his hand along her side as they got settled, fingertips searching out her most sensitive spots. Then he groaned against her lips before pulling away enough to get his own shirt off.

She wriggled happily, arching so he could reach wherever he wanted. When he pulled away, she whimpered and reached for him, pulling back when she realized what he was doing. She got her shirt off in a hurry, then reached for him properly. "Too far away."

He pressed back toward her, his chest hot against hers. His lips slid over her as he started kissing her again. He was quickly becoming spoiled, having her so close after how long they'd been apart. If they were separated again, he wasn't sure what would happen to him.

They wouldn't be apart again. She'd go to Hell to reach him if that's what it took. The drugs were her fault. Not his family, that probably would have happened one way or another. But it would be along time before he could even try to reach them and that was.

Kissing him, being hard against him and more than willing, was the very least she could offer him. It was solace and certainty. And that's all she had. She touched him firmly, nails digging in every now and again. Not leaving real marks, just adding sensation. She needed him to really feel her.

He growled against her lips, then pressed harder against her. His tongue teased at her, then pressed into her mouth, his weight heavy over her.

She moaned loudly, half laughing at herself without moving away from his lips. There was no way she was pulling away from him. Not when he felt so good above her. Of course, that wouldn't be comfortable for much longer and she let her mind wander to consider other positions. She got one hand on his ass and dug her fingers into his flesh, moaning again at the feel of him.

He ground hard against her in response to the way she kneaded at him. They were going to end up naked very soon, but she felt amazing just like this.

After a little while, she made a half hearted attempt at pulling at his waist band. She had no desire to move or stop kissing, so she gave up easily. Instead, she hooked a leg around him so she could rock against him.

He ground harder still against her, then shifted and roll his hips against hers in promise. Of course, that promise required being away from her long enough to get clothing off.

She wasn't ready to move away from him, not even close. She dug her nails into him harder, whimpering when she realized she might be leaving marks. That only made her press harder still. It felt so good. She pulled out of the kiss with a whimper. "Fuck, baby, please."

He grinned broadly, then bucked into her again. "Please, what? You have to tell me, babe. Tell me what you need."

She wanted to make him wait more, but she couldn't do it. The heat between them was starting to make her jumpy. She might hurt him if she had to hold off much longer. "Clothes." She groaned and tried again. "Clothes off. Please."
