Briefings with Saul were getting more and more tense. Carrie could feel the strain on all of them as a real, palpable thing. Beside her, no one had ever had much faith in Brody, which was largely her fault. How could she explain her change of heart without explaining it was exactly that. What was harder was not telling him about how bad it was. Every time she was vague it was a physical pain.

The final straw was a heated conversation about what they would do if he were found out, revealed to be on a mission. They had escape plans, but it was clear very few people in that room gave a damn if they worked. Or if they even existed. She'd been through hell for the man they were dismissing like so much dross and all because... She wasn't that sure why because at this point. It was about Saul, really, and she knew that. That's why when he made a passing comment that made it sound damn like he'd made his decision and Brody didn't figure into it at all, she felt her stomach lurch so badly she almost had to leave the room.

She didn't go to him that night, that would be stupid. She waited a day, all of which was spent wondering when she would throw up. She got there late, just before dark, and sat back to watch the men finish up before meal break. He looked good. Better than when she saw him last, even.

She took one last big bite of hers, closed up the containers and set them on the floor next to him. She reached out and touched his cheek, then brought her hand up onto his head, where his hair was starting to be visible. A pale gold fuzz. "Have to worry or I won't pay attention, but I'm not panicked. Just paying attention." She leaned forward and kissed him gently.

"Promise that you'll tell me if it gets to be too much?" Which was pretty hypocritical, given his recent stunt. But still...

She laughed softly, with no irony. "I promise, but you have to promise the same thing." She touched his cheek lightly. "Besides the whole running off to escape prosecution thing, I want this to work." It would be nice, now that she was having this kid, if it had both its' parents. Not to mention she was kind of in love with him. "We'll figure it out."

He leaned into her touch and smiled. "We will. We have to." He shifted up so he could kiss her briefly before going back to look at her. "We should get some rest."

She pulled him back for a longer kiss, purring softly at the kiss and the idea of rest. It had been a long day, more emotional than she expected with revealing the pregnancy. When she sat back, she groaned softly. "I don't care if I sleep, I just want...you." She didn't mean sex, although she knew that would settle her. She meant him, being with him.

He stood to take a few moments to clean up he room, setting her leftovers with his. Then he stripped himself naked and went back to her. He helped her to stand, then started removing her clothes.

She had gotten a nap, he had not. He just wanted to lay down and rest some, with her in his arms.

Being stripped down was surprisingly comforting. She helped him, not really touching him at all except to support herself. Then she kissed him softly, before crawling to the far side of the bed and making room for him. Once he was in, she curled tightly against his side with her head on his shoulder. "Big bed. Pillow top. Ridiculously expensive sheets." She groaned softly. "And you."

He got his arm around her and pulled the covers up over them. He pressed his lips to her hair and sighed softly. "Well, the me part I am pretty certain about. We'll have to ask about the best place to buy furniture."

She nodded, snuggling even closer. "And there have to be antique stores around. The house has such clean lines, we can put anything in it." She groaned. "I'm going to go into overload any minute, I know it. Hold on tight." It would undoubtedly be a bumpy ride.

He rubbed her back, nuzzling in her hair. "We'll get through it, babe. I promise." Her freaking out might give him something to focus on, to stay steady, for her.

So long as they traded off, they'd be fine. She took a deep breath and reminded herself of that over and over until she felt herself really let go and relax. Her hand even went flat on his belly. "ID's, a bed and dishes, then jobs. Then everything else." He was probably going to say doctor, but she'd be happy to put that off a little longer.

He covered her hand and smiled. "And doctor." His lips pressed to her hair again and he whispered her name. "I love you. Rest."

She groaned loudly, but resigned, and cuddled close. She tossed her leg over him and pulled at him. "Rest. Feh." Even so, she closed her eyes as she squeezed his hand tightly. It wasn't going to take much for her to sleep, really, particularly when she was so safe against him.

He did what he did best in situations like this, he held her and watched her. Once she was really asleep, he let himself relax. The knowledge that they were not having to pack up and travel again in the morning made it more likely that he would actually sleep.

The knowledge that they had found a place that they could start a life, that she was carrying his child, all of it was bordering on being overwhelm, and yet was sthe most reasonable thing in the world to him.

If he'd said that to her, she probably have flipped out. That any of this seemed reasonable was madness. Her dreams, though, seemed to be completely comfortable with all the changes. They were in the house, all three of them. She didn't realize the baby was there at first, more concentrated on being in the kitchen with him. Then the cry came and she went running like it was the most natural thing. Back in the kitchen, she rocked the baby as though that was her place. She'd rocked babies before, of course, but not for a while. And for it to be hers...

She woke making a dissatisfied noise. She didn't want to wake up, she wanted to spend more time in that life where it seemed like things were working out.

At her noise, his eyes opened and he hugged her a little tighter. "I'm right here, baby. You're okay."

He shifted to kiss her, to ground her back in the reality with him.

The kiss was probably the only thing she would have accepted to calm her. Still, she grumbled softly. "Liked that dream." She shifted so she could hide against his neck, kissing him softly. "It was good."

He chuckled softly. "You should tell me about it." He shifted both of them, so that he could rub her back while she talked.

She looked up at him, a little surprised, then she shrugged and described it much more matter of factly than it had felt. "It wasn't anything special. Just making dinner." She licked her lips. "As a family."

His smile broadened. "You liked it." He continued to nuzzle her as he pictured it. It was probably easier for him to see it, since he'd already been father to infants twice. Still, this child would be different from Dana or Chris.

This child would be a Reynolds, whatever that meant.

That was another weird thing to think about, given how close she was to her dad. There would be tears when that sank in fully. Still, it was good to hear him happy about their future. "It wasn't awful. It was...comfortable. Familiar." She swallowed hard. "Felt right."

He got his fingers into her hair and turned her head so she had to look at him. "This is the only thing that has felt right in a long time, Carrie. You are the only thing that has felt right, despite everything that has happened along the way."

Smirking, he brushed his lips over hers. "Looks like I am finally getting my cabin boy position."

She couldn't help it, she burst out laughing. It felt good to laugh like that. She grabbed his head and pulled him into a deep kiss, the laugh never really dying out until she pulled away again. "You got the wrong hat, baby." She looked up at him, picturing him in a little sailor's cap, and burst out laughing again. Hiding her face against his shoulder, she just enjoyed it.

He just grinned and kissed her again. "The hat doesn't matter."

She snorted softly. "It matters. I like that hat." She nuzzled at his jaw, smiling softly. "You will wear it for me. That and nothing else." She nipped where she'd been nuzzling. "I promise to say ride 'em, cowboy." She would, too, just because.
